Heräsimme aamulla aikaisin, eli Juha 6.00 ja Krista 6.30. Juha heräsi aikaisemmin koska hänellä menee meikkauksen kanssa merkittävästi pidempään :). Aikaisen herätyksen syynä oli matka rotarien aamukokoukseen. Oli hieno nähdä akateemisen maailman ulkopuolella muodollinen kokous. Krista piti pienen puheen kokouksessa kertoen mitä on tapahtunut näiden 9 vuoden aikana. Tänään Rogerilla oli vapaapäivä ja hän vietti sen meidän kanssa paikkoja kierrellen.

Rotarikokouksen jälkeen yritimme tehdä hotelli-, hostelli- ja lentovaraukset. Valitettavasti mokkula nettiyhteys pätki täysin, joten saimme varattua vain hotellit ja hostellit. Suunnitelma A on siis vahvistettu ja toimii! Puhelinsoittojen jälkeen siirryimme sotamuistomerkillelle, jonka puistossa koitimme mokkulan toimivuutta uudelleen. Koska verkko toimi hyvin saimme myös lennot varattua.

Näiden aussien sotamuistomerkki on käsittämättömän iso kompleksi. Osallistuimme siellä 90 minuutin opaskierrokselle ja raapaisimme hädintuskin pintaa. Ilmeisesti kaikkialla, missä tehtiin jotain merkittävää, oli aussisotilas paikalla, aina 🙂 Eri esineet ja näyttelytilat sisälsivät omia erikoisvideoita upeine valoefekteineen. Kyseiseen paikkaan pitäisi palata uudelleen, sillä pelkästään videoiden katseluun menisi päivä tai kaksi.

Uuvuttavan reissun jälkeen palasimme kahvilan kautta Rogerin ja Patrician talolle. Tunnin tirsojen jälkeen olimme sopivan väsyneitä matkustamaan Rogerin kanssa hänen firmalleen ottamaan Patricia kyytiin. Heidän kanssa matkustimme näkemään heidän poikaansa Thorbenia ja hänen perhettään. Illan kruunasimme upealla illallisella ravintolassa. ‘

Valitettavasti kenguruhavaintojen mahdollisuus on pienentynyt suunnattomasti. Samalla halaamisyritykset ovat muuttuneet vaikeammiksi. Koska seuraavaksi matkustamme koralliriutalle kenguruaikani alkaa kutistua kovasti. Sydneyssä teen viimeisen epätoivoisen yrityksen kohti häkkiin jääneitä kenguruja!

We woke early in the morning, meaning Juha at 6 AM and Krista at 6.30 AM. Juha woke earlier since it takes him much longer to do the make up than Krista. 🙂 Reason for the early wake up call was our trip to rotary meeting. It was great to see a formal meeting outside the academic world. Krista held a small speech during the meeting in which she told what had happened to her during the last 9 years. Today Roger had his day off so he spend it with us circulating different places.

After the rotary meeting we tried to do all the hotel, hostel and flight bookings. Unfortunately our dongle connection was losing a lot of packets so we got to book on the hotels and the hostels. Plan A is confirmed and working! After the phone calls we moved to the war memorial. It had a nice park where we tested our dongle connection again. Since we got a good connection we booked our flights.

The aussies war memorial is an incredible  huge place. We took part in a 90 minute guided tour and barely scratched the surface. Apparently everywhere where something remarkable was done there as an Australian soldier on the location, always. 🙂 Different objects and spaces had their our special videos with magnificent light effects. We should get back to that place again, since watching the videos alone would take a day or two.

After an exhausting trip we returned to Rorger’s and Patricia’s house, before that though we had our lunch in a cafeteria. After an hours nap we were properly tired to travel with Roger to his company to pick up Patricia. With all on board we travelled to meet their son Thorben and his family. The evening was topped of with a lovely dinner in a restaurant.

Unfortunately changes to spot kangaroos have dropped down dramatically. At the same time attempts to hug the furry things have turned harder. Since the next thing will do is to travel to the great reef my kangaroo time is shrinking fast. I’ll make my last desperate attempt in Sydney against the trapped kangaroos!

Patricia otti tiistain vapaaksi, jotta hän voi viettää päivän kanssamme. Rauhallisen aamun jälkeen menimme kansallisgalleriaan käymään. Galleria oli muuttunut sisällöltään melkoisesti siitä kun Krista kävi siellä viimeksi, mikä tuli suurena järkytyksenä meille ;).

Gallerian jälkeen meidän piti mennä Red Hillin kukkulan ravintolaan, mutta kun pääsimme mäen päälle saimme lukea ravintolan ovesta että se oli suljettu. Se siitä lounaasta mäen päällä. Pysähdyimme kuitenkin hetkeksi kuvaamaan maisemia. Päätimme lounastaa alhaalla ja matkalla lounaspaikkaan ajella läpi lähetystöalueen.

Canberrassa sijaitsevat lähetystöt ovat isoja ja (osa) kauniita komplekseja. Joukosta erottui komiasti jenkit koollaan, israililaiset linnoituksellaan sekä kiinalaiset näyttävyydellään. Kävimme svedujen pihalla vetämässä runtua kun olivat jättäneet porttinsa auki 😀

Lounaan jälkeen kävimme ihmettelemässä keskustan ostoskeskusta, josta kaappasimme mukaan vähän tuliaista ja postikorttia. Lopetimme päivän hyvissä ajoin jotta pystymme suunnittelemaan matkaamme eteenpäin.

Illan suunnittelun hedelmä on suunnitelma A, joka makea kuin suklainen kenguru. Suunnitelma on vasta mallia A ja täysin vahvistamaton. Jos haluat nähdä sen käyppä katsomassa karttaa täältä. Suunnitelma on merkattu keltaisilla palloilla.

Patricia took the Tuesday off so she could spend more time with us. After a peaceful morning we visit the national gallery. Exhibitions in the gallery had changed quite a lot since Krista last visited the place which came as a huge shock to us 😉

After the gallery we were suppose to go to a restaurant on top of the Red Hill, but once we got there we got to read from the door of the restaurant that they were closed. So much for lunch on the top of the hill. We stopped to take a couple of pictures, since we were there. We decided to have our lunch at the city and drive our way there through embassy area.

Embassies located in Canberra are big and (some of them) beautiful building complexes. Some of them stood a part from others, such were the US with its size, Israelis with their fortress and Chinese with their looks. We went and drove around the yard on Swedes embassy since they had left their gate open 😀

After the lunch we had a quick stop in one of malls at the center. We gripped some souvenirs and post cards while we where there. We ended the day early so we could plan rest of our trip.

Fruits of the planning is Plan A, which is as sweet as a chocolate kangaroo. Plan is just Plan A and completely unconfirmed. If you want to see it, look at the map here. The Plan A is the yellow balloons.

Heräilimme omaan rauhalliseen aikaan ja aamiaisen jälkeen lähdimme seikkailemaan busseilla kohti kansallismuseota. Bussisuunnistus oli suurpiirteisesti tehty :). Tästä syystä odotimme bussia lähes tunnin ja kävelimme toisessa päässä melkoisen matkan.

Canberran kansallismuseo on hyvin omalaatuinen ja moderni. Puolentoista tunnin kävelyn jälkeen olimme ihmeissämme sisältä löytyvistä esineistä, mutta täysin hukassa aikajanan ja sijaintimme suhteen.

Australialaiset ovat kolikoiden kanssa käyttäneet saman tason luovuutta. 50 sentin kolikolla voi tyrmätä harmaajättikengurun pitkänkin matkan päästä, jos vain jaksaa viskata sen. Luonnollisesti dollarin ja kahden dollarin kolikot ovat pienempiä kuin 20 sentin kolikko, mikä kalpenee koossaan vain 50 senttiselle. Samalla logiikalla dollari on isompi kuin kaksi dollari. 10 ja 5 senttiset ovat taasen mikro kokoluokkaa. Helppoa kuin mikä!

Iltapäivällä vietimme teehetken Suen ja Miken kanssa heidän luonaan. Sieltä matkustelimme Patrician ja Rogerin kanssa ravintolaan syömään ja nyt vietämme rauhallista ja lataavaa iltaa.

We woke at our own phase and after the breakfast we started our bus adventure towards the national museum. Our planning was done more or less at general level :). That’s why we waited for a bus nearly an hour and walk quite a bit at the other end.

Canberra’s national museum is very unique and modern. We were amazed by the things found in there by walking only an hour and a half. We were also completely lost on the time line and our location. It was quite hard to find our way out!

Australian coins have seen the same amount of creativity as their national museum. You can knock a great gray kangaroo out cold with a 50 cent coin even from a great distance, provided that you have the strength to throw it. Naturally one dollar and two dollar coins are smaller than the 20 cent coin. With the same logic one dollar is bigger than two dollars. 10 and 5 cents are micro size stuff. Easy isn’t it?

We had afternoon tee with Sue and Mike at their house. From there we travelled to a restaurant to have our dinner with Patricia and Roger. Now we are spending a quiet and energizing evening.

Jätimme aamulla aamupalan väliin täällä Patrician ja Rogerin luona, sillä meidät kuskattiin kymmeneksi Suen ja Leslien luo aamiaiselle/brunssille. Aamupäivä ja hyvä osa päivästä kuluikin heidän ja heidän poikien, Adamin ja Justinin, kanssa jutellen. Hyvän juttutuokion jälkeen meidät tuotiin takaisin Patrician ja Rogerin luo jossa nautimme pikaisen hedelmistä koostuvan välipalan ennen päivän suurinta seikkailua. Matkaa kohti Tidbinbillaa.  Tidbinbilla on Canberrassa sijaitseva kansallispuisto jossa on koalia, emuja, vesinokkaeläimiä ja kenguruja.

Aseistauduimme vesipulloilla, hatuilla, kamerilla ja lenkkareilla. Olin valmistautunut halaaman noita karvaisia pikku höpönassuja. Kengukellon ollessa 77,5 tuntia pääsimme paikan päälle ja ensimmäiset havainnot tehtiin. Valitettavasti kyseiset höpönassut olivat joko pienissä ryhmissä liian kaukana tai isoissa ryhmissä (mob) sopivan lähellä. Kuitenkaan useista rauhallisista yrittämisistäni huolimatta en päässyt halietäisyydelle. Koska kyseessä oli kansallispuisto annoin höpönassuille sen verta rauhaa että en koittanut rynnätä päälle. Teen sen villien ja vapaiden kanssa. Reissusta jäi käteen läjäpäin kuvia ja halu istua päivä tai kaksi siellä kansallispuistossa. Maisemat olivat kerrassaan uskomattomia. Lisäsin reissumme avoimelle suunnittelupöydälle mahdollisuuden istua päivän verran jossain kansallispuistossa omassa jylhässä rauhassa. Niin hieno tämä kokemus oli.

Illan vietimme, jälleen kerran, hyvän ruuan, viinin ja seuran kanssa Patrician ja Rogerin talolla.

We skipped breakfast this time at Patricia’s and Roger’s house because we were transported to Sue and Leslie at 10 o’clock. Morning and good part of the day was spent with them and with their sons, Adam and Justin, by just talking about all sorts of things. After a good chat we were brought back to Pactricia and Roger where we had a quick fruity snack before the days big adventure, our trip to Tidbinbilla. Tidbinbilla is a national reserve located in Canberra where they have koalas,  emus, platypuses and kangaroos.

We geared up with water bottles, hats, cameras and running shoes. I was mentally prepared to hug those furry little sweetie pies. When kangaroo clock was at 77,5 hours we were at the scene and the first sightings were made. Unfortunately those furry little critters were either in small groups too far away or in large mobs near enough. Even after several calm approaches I didn’t manage to get to hugging range. Since it was national reserve I gave them the courtesy of not running at them. I will do that with wild and free furries. So we were left with piles of pictures and a desire to sit a day or two in a national reserve. The views were magnificent! I added a possible day of sitting in one of these park to our planning table. This was such a wonderful experience.

The evening was spent, yet again, with good food, wine and company at Patricia’s and Roger’s house.

Aloitimme päivän aikaisin eli heräsimme 8.30. Juha viritteli itselleen taas pekonia, kananmunia sekä paahtoleipää. Kahvin teki Patricia, mikä oli  hienoa sillä lopputulos oli cappuccino. Krista aamianen sisälsi varmasti hedelmiä. Runsaan aamiaisen jälkeen lähdimme kaupungille ostoksille. Matkalla kaupungille ajanhetkellä 49 tuntia näimme ensimmäisen kerran kengurun. Valitettavasti näimme sen vain hetken ja hyvin kaukaa.

Kaupungilla kävimme läpi useamman ostoskeskuksen pääasiassa katsellen ja ihmetellen tämän maan tarjontaa. Kauppakeskukset näyttävät samalta kuin meillä ja sisältävät samaa kuin meillä, joten niistä ei tullut edes kuvia otettua.

Meitä on viimeiset kaksi päivää peloteltu informaatiolla erilaisista myrkyllisistä olennoista. Ilmeisestikin meri ja meren ranta on täynnä ikäviä elukoita jotko joko tappavat sinut tai tappavat sinut, mutta paikalliset tietävät voiko veteen mennä edes etäisen turvallisesti uimaan. Maalla taasen käärmeet ja hämähäkit tappavat sinut, sitten on läjäpäin vihaisia elukoita, ne todennäköisesti tappavat sinut. Olen päätynyt yksinkertaiseen ratkaisuun myrkyllisten eläinten tunnistamisessa: Jos eläin on pörröinen ja söpö se ei todennäköisesti tapa sinua.

Ennen illan ruokailua Krista vei minut maastoon. Menimme suoraan kengurujen leikkikentälle, mutta ehdimme olemaan siellä niin vähän aikaa että emme havainneet yhtään kengurua. Harmillista. Suunnittelen ottavani kuvan kengurusta niin läheltä että sen sieraimen sisustakin näkyy…

Loppuilta menikin nauttien kotona tehtyä lammasta, hyvää juttuseuraa ja vanhaa viiniä.

We began the day early, meaning we woke at 8.30. Juha cooked up some bacon, eggs and toast. Coffee was made by Patricia which was nice since it ended up being a cappuccino. This time I’m sure that Kritas breakfast included fruits. After a healthy breakfast we headed out for some shopping. On our way to the city at 49 hours we saw a kangaroo the first time. Unfortunately we saw it only a brief moment and from a very far away.

In the city we through several malls mainly looking and wondering all things this country has got to offer. Since the malls look the same as we have and had a lot of the same in them we didn’t even take pictures.

Last couple of days we have being frighten with information about different poisonous creatures. Apparently the sea and the sea shore are full of nasty creatures that either kill you or kill you. Luckily the locals will know if you can go to the water to risk your life. Then again on the land snakes and spiders will kill you and there are a bunch of different angry creatures which will likely get you killed. I’m come up with a simple solution to distinguish these two: If the animal is cute and cuddly it most likely won’t kill you.

Before the evenings dinner Krista took me to the forest. We went directly to the kangaroos back yard but we were only few minutes in there and during that time we didn’t see any. Such a shame. I’m planning to take a picture so close to the kangaroo that you can see the inside of it’s nostril.

The rest of the evening went by while we ate home made lam, had a nice chat and drank some old wine.

Aikaeron, matkustuksen ja yleisen nuutumisen vuoksi päätimme herätä sitten kun heräämme. Tämä tarkoitti että kiskoimme itsemme kovalla työllä ylös vähän ennen yhtä päivällä. Aamutoimien ja suihkun jälkeen päivään mahtui vain matkustaminen tapaamispaikalle, suunnitelmissa ollut visiitti kansalliseen taidemuseoon piti tiputtaa pois.

Meille oli annettu ohjeet tehdä oma aamiaisemme vapaasti keittiötä hyödyksi käyttäen. Tämä saattaa kuulostaa hienolta ja helpolta idealta, mutta pitkän linjan matkustajana tiesin heti yhden sudenkuopan; kahvinkeiton. Niinpä edellisenä iltana olin tiedustellut miten natiivit tekevät kahvinsa. Silti aamu viereessa keittiössä toisessa maassa on haasteellinen. Missä on sitä sun tätä? Miksi leivänpaahdin ei lähde päälle? Kuinka saan tulen (ja kaasun) pois päältä kaasuhellasta? Minne hävitän todisteet (kahvin purut) kahvin keitosta? Kun nämä kaikki pikku haasteet oli saatu selvitettyä Juhalla oli edessään aamiainen joka sisälsi kananmunia, pekonia, kahvia sekä paahtoleipää. Kristan aamiainen sisälsi kartan ja luultavasti hedelmiä…

Virkistävän aamiaisen jälkeen lähdimme talsimaan bussipysäkille. Matkustimme busseilla liki kaksi tuntia päästäksemme tapaamispaikalle “Civiciin”. Tuohon pariin tuntiin kuului pieni seikkailu Wodenissa ostoskeskusessa sekä pieni kävely Civicissä ulkoilmassa. Patrician kanssa matkustimme yliopiston ravintolaan missä tapasimme kaksi hänen ystäväänsä. Tuolla ravintolassa kuluikin loppu ilta rauhallisesti oluesta, viinistä, appelsiinimehusta ja naposteltavista nauttien. Sarjassa ennen kuulumattomia asioita: Minua hoputettiin vanhemman rouvan toimesta viimeistelemään olueni, jotta voin hakea seuraavan. 😀

Vielä lopuksi kenguruista. Olen melkoisen varma että natiivit pomppivat karvapallot ovat piilossa minun vuoksi. Mikään muu ei selitä 36 tuntia ja 0 havaintoa. Näen kylttejä jotka varoittavat kenguruista. Ihmiset puhuvat niistä, mutta en näe yhtään, en vaikka kuinka yritän. Yksi selitys on kenguruiden puutteeseen on että me olemme kaupungissa, toinen selitys on että kenguruilla on ruokaa metsissä juuri olleiden sateiden jäljiltä. Minä olen varma että kengurut pelkäävät haleja ja siksi eivät näyttäydy.

Due to time difference, travel and general doziness we decided to wake up when we wake up. This meant that we drag our selves up just a little bit before one pm. After morning activities and a shower we only had time to travel to our meeting point. We had planned to visit the national art gallery but that had to be dropped out.

We were given instructions to do our own breakfast using the kitchen. This might sound nice and easy, but as a long time traveler I knew one caveat before hand, how to make coffee? So last I asked how do the natives do their coffee. Still a morning in a strange kitchen in a foreign country is challenging. Where is everything? Why doesn’t the toaster start? How do I stop the gas and the flame on the stove? How do I dispose the evidence of making coffee? When all these little challenges were settled Juha had a breakfast made out of eggs, ham, coffee and toast. Krista’s breakfast included a map and probably fruits…

After the refreshing breakfast we head out to the buss stop. We travelled nearly two ours with the busses to get to the meeting point in Civic. During that two hours we had a small detour in Woden shopping mall and a small walk in Civic. With Patricia we travelled to a university restaurant where we met two of her friends. In that restaurant we spend the rest of the evening enjoying some beer, wine, orange juice and some snacks. In the series of things never happened before: I was rushed by an older lady to finish my beer so I could get another beer. 😀

Before I stop I have to say a word about the kangaroos. I quite certain that the native jumping fur balls are hiding because of me. Nothing else can explain the 36 hours and 0 sightings. I see signs that warn about kangaroos. People talk about them, but I can’t see one no matter how much I try. One explanation about the missing kangaroos is that we are in the city, another one is that they have plenty of food in the forests since it just rained a lot. I’m, however, convinced that kangaroos are afraid of hugs and there for won’t show them selves.

Laskeuduimme aamulla Sydneyhin. Kengukello lähti käyntiin klo 10.30 7.1 2010. Kaikki kenguruhavainnot ja toimenpiteet kerrotaan suhteessa kengukellon nollahetkeen. Se tarkoittaa että esimerkiksi nyt Kenguhetkessä 6.00 olen tehnyt 0 kenguruhavaintoa. Päivän ohjelma on hankkia datayhteys minulle, hypätä bussiin ja matkustaa Canberraan, jossa tapaamme Patrician ja Rogerin.

Sydneyn hintataso  on pöyristyttävä, eli lähes sama kuin Suomessa. KL:n jälkeen se tuntuu vain niin kovin kalliilta. 🙂 Sydney tuntuu myös jotenkin laimealta, liian tutulta verrattuna edelliseen maahan. Täällä ei ole koristeellisuutta, eksoottisen näköisiä ihmisiä ja puita.

Tutkiessani erilaisia mainoslappusia aloin muodostamaan Kengurusuunnitelmaa(tm). Kenguruja on jumissa useissa eri (maksullisissa) paikoissa ja niiden lähelle tuntuu pääsevän todella helposti, jos mainoslappusten kuviin on uskominen. Ne pahaa aavistamattomat karvakasat on aivan halausetäisyydellä ilman minkään asteen juoksemista. Se tarkoittaa että minulla on hyvin energiaa jäljellä painimista varten ja Krista osaa käyttää kameran sarjatulitilaa. Tulen käyttämään tätä optiota sikäli villin kengurun halaamisyritykset epäonnistuvat. Yleisesti Sydneyssä olisi useita hurjia aktiviteettejä joihin minä haluaisin osallistua, mutta Krista ei ole niin innoissaan. Pidämme tässä vaiheessa suunnitelupöydän täysin avoimena ja täynnä ideoita. 🙂

Paikallinen mokkula on nyt ostettu, samoin hellehatut ja nyt istumme bussissa matkalla kohti Canberraa.

Canberrassa meitä vastassa oli Patricia. Vietimme rauhallisen koti-illan käyden läpi käytännöllisyyksiä ja tulevan viikon suunnitelmia.

We landed to Sydney this morning. The kangaroo clock started running at 10.30 AM 7.1.2010. All kangaroo related markings will be told in relation to the 0 hour of the kangaroo clock. That means that in kangaroo moment 6.00 hours I’ve spotted 0 kangaroos. Today’s plan is to get me a data connection, jump on to a bus and travel to Canberra where we’ll meet Patricia and Roger.

Sydney’s price level is horrible, that is almost as much as in Finland. After KL it just feels so very expensive. 🙂 Sydney is also a lot more tamer and familiar than KL. There are no decorative buildings and exotic looking people and trees.

While I studied different advertisements I started drafting up the Kangaroo plan ™. It seems that some of the kangaroos are stuck in various parks (which you need to pay to get in and it appears that you can get very close to them quite easily, that is if you can believe the pictures in the advertisements. Those unsuspecting fur balls are right at the hugging distance without any running. This means that I should have plenty of energy left for any wrestling that is needed and Krista knows how to use the fast mode in our camera. I will be using plan if I fail to hug a wild kangaroo. In  general Sydney has a lot of wild activities that I would like to participate in, but Krista wasn’t all that excided. We’ll keep our plans completely open and let the ideas pour in.

We have the data connection and new hats. Now we are sitting in a bus on our way to Canberra.

Patricia was waiting for us at Canberra. We spend a nice peaceful home evening going through the practicalities and the plans for the coming week.

Jonota päästäksesi jonottamaan. Nyt on koettu sekin. 🙂 Eilen Hansin odottelun jälkeen kävimme Petronasin tornien sisällä. Tarkkana poikana huomasin että "Ei enää vapaita lippuja" – kyltti puuttui. Mielenkiinto nousi ja kävimme tarkistamassa onko lippuja saatavilla. Olihan niitä, mutta annettu aika oli liian myöhään iltapäivällä. Niinpä tulimme tänään aamulla jonottamaan lippuja ja samalla tapaamaan Minnan. Jotta lippuja pääsi jonottamaan piti ensin jonottaa siihen jonoon. Mielenkiintoinen järjestely 🙂

Saimme liput Petronaksen skybridgelle 12:15 kierrokselle. Koska siihen oli hyvin aikaa päätimme käydä läheisessä ravintolassa brunssilla. Kauniin kelin vuoksi päätimme matkata paikalle Petronasin puiston läpi. Tästä syntyi sen verta paha suunnistusvirhe että meidän piti juosta syömästä hotellille tekemään checkout. Ravintolassa sattui jotain ennen kuulumatonta. Juha ohjattiin naisten vessaan koska miesten vessoihin oli jono! Juosten tehdyn checkoutin jälkeen menimme rauhassa Petronas tornille ja osallistuimme kierrokseen. Se sisälsi mm. melkoisen propaganda videon ja kuvaustuokion itse sillalla. Sen keikan jälkeen naiset olivat päättäneet käydä jollain aukiolla ja jossain marketissa (central market) :). Koska Juha oli brunssista jäänyt vähän nälkäiseksi seurue hajosi kahtia; Juha hakemaan ruokaa ja naiset vilvoittelemaan KLCC:n alakertaan. Haluamani ruokapaikka oli ääriään myöten täynnä joten vaihdoin taktiikkaa ja ostin Lasak:ia tai jotain sellaista Take awaynä! Arvatenkin kyseinen ruoka oli tulista…
Aukion ja kauppakeskuksen jälkeen erosimme Minnasta ja me lähdimme pikku ostoskeskuskierroksen kautta hotelliin. Hotellilla kävimme kuntosalilla suihkussa ja vaihtamassa puhtaat vaatteet päälle. Ne pysyivät puhtaina ja kuivina jopa useita minuutteja…
Nyt istumme kentällä valmiina nousemaan koneeseen. Seuraavaksi Australia!

Queue in line so that you queue in another line! Now we’ve experienced that also :). Yesterday after waiting for Hans we went inside the Petronas towers. The observatory guy that I am noticed immediately that the "No more free tickets" sing was missing. This raised our interest and we went to check if there were indeed free tickets available. There were, but they were for a late trip in the afternoon which didn’t fit our schedule. So today we came early to stood in line for the tickets and to meet Minna. In order to get to the line for the tickets you had to stand in a line for the first line :). Interesting arrangement.

We got tickets to the sky bridge tour starting at 12:15. Since we had some time on our hands we decided to have a brunch in a nearby restaurant. The weather was really nice so we decided to travel through a park behind the Petronas Twin towers. We made a huge mistake regarding the distances and location which meant that we had to run, after the lunch, so that we would be in time at our hotel for checkout. Something unexpected happened at the restaurant. Juha was guided to women’s toilet since there was a queue to men’s toilets! After running to hotel and doing checkout we walked back to the towers and took the tour. It included a propaganda video and a moment in the sky bridge.
After that the girls had decided to go to central market and some square. Juha was till hungry after the brunch so the team split up; Juha hunts food and girls wait at KLCC. The restaurant I wanted to eat in was overwhelmed with people so I changed tactics and took Laslak as Take Away!
After the square and the mall we said our goodbyes to Minna and headed towards to hotel. We had a little detour through a shopping mall on our way to hotel.
At the hotel we went to the gym to take a shower and to change to clean clothes. They remained clean and dry for several minutes…
Now we are sitting in the airport ready to board the plain. Next stop Australia!

Heräsimme aamulla aikaisin (taas!) eli jopa 7.00 matkataksemme hämärille Pudun markkinoille. Nämä markkinat ovat erikoistuneet tuoreeseen ruokaan, kalaan, kanaan, vihanneksiin,kasviksiin yms. Ruoka on niin tuoretta, että näet kun sitä teurastetaan. Osa ilmeisesti teurastetaan silmiesi edessä tuoreuden takaamiseksi. Alkuperäisen suunnitelman mukaisesti söisimme sieltä ostettua aamiaista, mutta ruokahalu katosi jossain kohtaa X-D. Lopulta ostimme banaaneja mukaan ja poistuimme kohti Petronasin torneja ja siinä lähellä olevaa hyväksi mainostettua ruokapaikkaa.

Olin eilisen blogin päivityksen yhteydessä tarkistanut postimme ja saanut selville että Hans on mahdollisesti jumissa Pekingin lentokentällä huonon kelin vuoksi eikä hänellä ole mitään tapaa kertoa meille pääseekö hän tapaamispaikallemme. Samalla saimme selville että Kristan kaveri Minna on tulossa KL:n ja pääsemme tapaamaan häntä.

Näin ollen päätimme odottaa puoli tuntia tapaamispaikalla. Huvitin itseäni ja Kristaa tiedustelemalla aika ajoin onko joku mielenkiintoisen näköinen ohikulkija mahdollisesti Hans. Hänhän on viettänyt hyvän hetken Soulissa joten en voi olla täysin varma minkä näköinen hän nykyään on… Valitettavasti Hans ei koskaan ilmestynyt tapaamispaikalle, mutta onneksemme Minna oli päässyt turvallisesti KL:n. Sovimme treffit Merana KL:n torniin muutaman tunnin päähän ja vetäydyimme hotellille pikku siestalle.

Menara KL:llä näkymät olivat melkoiset. Koitan koostaa panoramakuvia antamaan hieman kuvaa siitä minkälaista siellä oli. Menaran jälkeen suuntasimme Chinatowniin syömään ja katselemaan heidän myyntikojujaan. Matkalla Chinatowniin koimme kovimmat rankkasateet tähän mennessä. Onneksi ne menivät ohi ruokatauon aikana. Illan päätteeksi menin pakolliselle kahville (ja donitsille 😉 kirjoittamaan tämän blogin.

We woke early in the morning (again!) meaning at 7.00 so that we could travel to shady Pudu markets. These markets are specialized in fresh food; fish, chicken, vegetables, fruits so on. The food is so fresh that you’ll see when they butcher it. Apparently some of is being butchered right in front of your eyes to guarantee the freshness. According to our original plan we would eat breakfast bought from there, but some where along the way we lost our appetite X-D. Finally we bought some bananas and headed back to Petronas towers and a food joint near it.

Yesterday while updating the blog I checked our emails and found out that Hans might be stuck in Peking airport due to bad weather and he has no way of telling us whether he will make it to the meeting point or not. At the same time we found out that Kristas friend Minna is on her way to KL and we will get to meet her.

So, things being as they were, we decided to wait half an hour at the meeting point. I amused my self and Krista by asking her from time to time whether somebody strange looking passerby could be Hans. I mean he has spent a good amount of time in Soul and I have no idea what he could look like nowadays… Unfortunately Hans never appeared at our meeting point. Some good news was that Minna had made it to KL. So we agreed to meet her at Merana KL tower in few hours and felled back to  hotel for a small siesta.

The view from Merana KL is quite something. I’ll try to create some panoramic pictures to give you some understanding what’s it like. After the Merana we headed to Chinatown to eat and see their stalls. On our way to Chinatown we saw the strongest rains we’ve seen so far. Luckily the rains was over when we were ready from our dinner. To finish the evening I went to my mandatory coffee (and donuts) to write this blog.
