Heräsimme murhaavan aikaisin, eli 5.30. Bussimme kohti Shute satamaa lähti 6.07 matkaan Airlie Beachilta. Meille oli kerrottu että Scamper niminen vene vie meidät saarelle ja se lähtee noin kello seitsemän. Olimme hyvissä ajoin paikalla ja Juha ehti syömään aamiaisen satamassa upeissa olosuhteissa. Kellon vierähtäessä vartin yli seitsemän Juhaa alkoi hieman hermostuttaa. Krista alkoi keskustella muiden kanssa ja selvisi että toisille oli kerrottu lähtöajan olevan 7.30. Juuri silloin paikalle saapuville oli kerrottu sen olevan 8. 🙂 Niinpä Juha haki kahvia itselleen. Kahdeksalta hyppäsimme baattiin ja lähdimme kohti saaria. Joukossamme oli pari joka meni telttailemaan sekä trio joka meni telttailemaan. Me olimme ainut pari joka meni kiinteään asutukseen. 🙂
Hook Island on iso saari jossa on pieni vanha lomakohde. Itse lomakohde on parhaat päivänsä nähnyt, mutta luonto ja auringonpaiste korvaavat puutteet. Luvassa on saarella vaeltelua (lähes koko saari on luonnonsuojelualuetta), snorkailua rajattomasti (olemme suurella riuttalla) sekä aurinkoa ja kirjoja. Tänään olemme ottaneet pienet maistiaiset kustakin osa-alueesta ja lupaavalta näyttää!
Kun suljet suihkukopin oven ja huomaat oven takana olevan kaksi isoa liskoa, voit olla varma että teidän kaikkien päässä liikkuu samat ajatukset. “IIIIIK IIIIK IIIIK! Mitä TUO täällä tekee?”. Juhan kohdatessa tämä tilanne hän ehti poistua suihkukopista ennen kuin liskot ehtivät. Seuraava koppi oli vapaa 😀

We woke way too early at 5.30. Our bus to Shute Harbor took us at 6.07 from Airlie Beach. We were told that a boat named Scamper will take us to the island and it will departure around 7.00. We were well ahead on the docks and Juha had his breakfast in fabulous morning conditions. When clocked passed 7.15 Juha started to get nervous. Krista started discussing with others and she found out that the others had received a different information. They had been told that the boat departures at 7.30. Persons just arriving at the docks were told that the boat departures at 8. 🙂 So Juha went to get some coffee. At eight we jumped on the boat and started towards the islands. We had a couple and a trio who were dropped to different islands to camp. We were the only ones going to have a roof on top of us.
Hook island is a big island with an old vacation resort. The resort has seen its best days but the nature and the sunshine make up for it. We’re looking to walk around the island (natural park covers almost the entire island), snorkling to our hearts content (we are at the great reef) and sun bathing and books. Today we have tasted every part of our plans and it’s looking good!
When you are closing the door of the shower and you notice two lizards behind the door you can be sure that all three of you are thinking the same. “IIIK IIIIIK IIIIIK! What is THAT doing in here?”. When Juha faced this situation he was faster than the lizards to change showers. Luckily the next one was vacant 🙂
